Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student of the Greek School of Imvros

For the second consecutive year, TROFELIA joins four other companies in sponsoring the “Konstantinos Grafiadelis” scholarship awarded to an outstanding student of the Greek School of Imvros, in memory of the late Konstantinos Grafiadelis.

Konstantinos Grafiadelis was not only a dear friend but also a close associate, respected by everyone who knew him for his integrity, selfless commitment to social contribution, work ethic, and deep education.Through this scholarship, awarded each year to the top-performing graduate of Greek descent from the final year of high school at the Greek School of Imvros — the birthplace of Konstantinos Grafiadelis — we recognize and reward academic excellence. Our aim is to provide both moral and material incentives for further learning. In this student’s pursuit of knowledge, we acknowledge the challenges they face and wish to contribute to the broader vision of the repatriation of an island deeply connected to one of the most painful chapters of modern Greek history.Since 2015, the high school and junior high school have served the Greek minority community on the island. The revival of the school is owed primarily to the initiative of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

As with all minority schools in Turkey, the curriculum is bilingual — in Turkish and Greek — with a strong emphasis on English as a third language. Most of the students come from local Imvrian families who returned to the island from Greece after the school reopened. The scholarship is administered by the Educational and Cultural Association of Imvros, which played a decisive role in the reopening of the school at all educational levels on the island. The Association’s goals include addressing key social, technical, and infrastructure issues and offering Greek students a high-quality, competitive education. In doing so, it aims to help cultivate well-rounded citizens who are equipped to thrive in our multicultural world.
